Head Start State of Hawaii Collaboration Project

Creates multi-agency, state and public/private partnerships to effect school readiness and quality of life for low-income children enrolled in Head Start programs and their families state-wide.  The Project works collaboratively with the Head Start Association of Hawaii and supports operations and program services of Hawai'i's seven Head Start grantee agencies.  Federally funded and located in the Department of Human Services, Benefit, Employment & Support Services Division.

PATCH
(People Attentive to Children)

Provides Hawaii’s Child Care Resource and Referral Services Statewide. PATCH is dedicated to improving the quality and availability of child care in Hawaii through child care resource referrals, training of child care providers and advocating on behalf of children and child care providers in the community.

Native Hawaiian

Ho‘owaiwai Na Kamali‘i-the Native Hawaiian Early Childhood Consortium

Dedicated to the betterment of early education and care for Native Hawaiian families with young children.  The Consortium works to empower communities to identify their needs and values, facilitate communication and encourage participation between providers and families to ensure quality early childhood services. We also work towards creating community determined solutions to meet community needs, while incorporating cultural values into the care of young Native Hawaiian children statewide.

BESSD’s mission is to help families achieve self-sufficiency and economic independence from welfare dependency while fostering personal responsibility. Department of Education, Student Support Services

The Student Support Branch provides leadership and support to schools in assuring that a Comprehensive Student Support System (CSSS) is in place at every school.. This branch is responsible for addressing the primary, secondary, and tertiary needs of all students--building a support network which includes all other appropriate agencies, departments, and service providers. The branch also addresses the Felix Consent Decree.

Health Insurance

Hawaii Covering Kids

Part of a nationwide effort funded by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to increase the number of Medicaid-eligible children benefiting from health insurance.  The project focus is a public-private partnership to work on the process simplification, identification, outreach, training, public information, and evaluation.

Special Needs

Department of Health, Early Intervention Section (EIS)

State Department of Health Section that assists families and professionals in obtaining and providing services for infants and toddlers from birth to 3 years of age with special needs.  Services assist children in five developmental areas: physical, cognitive, communication, social-emotional and adaptive skills.

Data and Child Advocacy

Hawaii Kids Watch

A non-partisan, non-profit, independent voice for the needs of all children and youth in our state. They seek to strengthen the effectiveness of the many viable single-issue child advocacy groups by focusing public attention on the interdependence of children’s needs. HI Kids Watch sponsors the Children’s Budget Analysis that provides information on statewide spending for children’s programs.
