Good Beginnings - Early Education Fund

The Hawaii Early Education Fund currently supports the Good Beginnings T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood ® HAWAII scholarship project. Good Beginnings brought this national scholarship model to Hawaii to increase the education level of the early childhood workforce. T.E.A.C.H. (Teacher Education And Compensation Helps) makes education affordable, increases wages, and reduces turnover in early childhood centers and family home care settings. T.E.A.C.H. college education scholarships are available for teachers, directors, family child care providers working in licensed care settings. Over 600 keiki are currently the direct beneficiaries of T.E.A.C.H., because they now have a teacher or provider who is better educated, compensated and fully committed to their healthy early development.

With increased contributions, Good Beginnings hopes to implement other Fund projects;

  • Funds to community initiatives to increase the quality and coordination of early childhood programs. For example, Good Beginnings provides financial and technical support as well as up-to-date information on child development to more than 27 community playgroups throughout the state, including Good Beginnings Play + Learn Groups. Good Beginnings would expand our community based support of this worthwhile initiative, and our Leadership Development Training project.
  • Funds to child care facilities to meet licensing and accreditation standards. Children, whether in a family child care home or a center, need safe and appropriate equipment, supplies, curriculum, and facilities to meet their needs. Funding developmentally appropriate childcare facilities is critical to addressing the supply of childcare openings in Hawaii, especially in low-income communities.

Minimal funding goes to Good Beginnings Alliance for coordination and implementation of the Hawaii Early Education Fund’s activities.
