Good Beginnings - Public Awareness

Good Beginnings For Your Keiki - Every Friday morning at 5:50a.m. on the "Good Morning Hawaii" with Jill Kurimoto, and again during the Saturday 5:00 p.m.news cast.

In 2000, Good Beginnings Oahu Council (GBOC) began a collaborative initiative with KITV4 News to bring weekly early childhood segments to parents and families with young keiki. The segment topics focus on issues and concerns families and early childhood educators face daily. Good Beginnings for Your Keiki topics include:
  • Early Intervention and Prevention
  • Breast feeding and bottle feeding
  • Choosing quality early childcare
  • Importance of preschool and school readiness
  • Health, nutrition and safety
  • Child abuse and prevention
  • Early dental health
  • Early immunization
  • Play and learning
  • Daily reading promotes early literacy
These are just a few of the topics we have addressed. Many of the ideas for the segments come from you, the public, as well as from parents, early childhood providers, service agencies and our many partners.

First Five Hawaii - a public awareness campaign of KHON2, provides education resources and support to parents and caregivers to make a difference for Hawaii's keiki and community. KHON2 has developed partnerships with many organizations within the early childhood education community, including the Department of Human Services, the Center on the Family, HAEYC, INPEACE, and PATCH, to create this campaign.

Born Learning - a project of United Way is a public engagement and material distribution campaign that provides improtant information about what young children need every day to ensure quality early learning. Designed to support parents in their ciritcal roll as their child's first teacher.
